"hanged" or "hung"??

Was the Shirt "Hanged" or "Hung"? It Depends!
For centuries, "hanged" and "hung" were used interchangeably as the past tense of "hang." However, most contemporary usage guides have established this distinction: convicted killers are hanged, and paintings are hung.
